Even though I have an infant clothing & accessories company that offers organic baby clothes, I don’t live anywhere near the organic, eco-friendly lifestyle that I could be living.
This month, I’m in my second trimester of pregnancy, and I am trying to live a healthier lifestyle. I had done a great job of this early last year, when my husband and I decided to try being vegetarians. We lasted a few months, but fell off the wagon when our lives got super-busy.
I hate that it is so easy to live unhealthy when you are busy and crammed for time. Or now, for me, busy and soooooo tired by the end of the day that just the thought of standing in front of a stove makes me cringe.
But, lucky for me, I am craving (mostly) healthy items with this pregnancy. Just having to pay attention to my diet has made a big difference in the choices I make. It has also pointed out to me where I could make better choices. We have pretty much always purchased organic milk, and I do buy more and more organic products.
However, I’m terrible at buying organic fruits and vegetables. So, I’m going to make a conscious choice to purchase organic fruits and veggies – especially since I’m saving nearly $10 for every alcoholic beverage I have to skip when we eat out. Makes it easier to spend the extra money on organic fruits and vegetables. It’s a great trade off actually.
Especially since fruits and vegetables are pretty much the first food you should buy organic – on account of all the pesticides and fertilizers that are used in non-organic farming.
I think I’m even going to brave my first “green” smoothie tomorrow. May the force be with me.
And also with you.
