“Couple” or “Co-ed” baby showers are becoming more and more popular these days. I somehow missed this trend in baby showers when we were having our first child. But our friends have done it. And I think it’s a great idea; both mom and dad are going to be parents, and both mom and dad have been through stressful times waiting and planning for baby’s arrival.
A guy/girl baby shower seems like a nice way for both parents to celebrate, open the little itsy bitsy baby gifts together, and enjoy their friend’s company before the whirlwind of baby arrives.
Having a baby shower with both the guys and girls can make planning the shower easier too. It can be as simple as an afternoon bbq (or better yet, potluck); you can skip the typical shower games and just hang out. I’m a big fan of just hanging out with friends. Not that I don’t see the advantages in a girls-only afternoon too; girl time does a girl good. But I just think that I would have enjoyed opening all of those little baby gifts for OUR baby girl with my husband by my side.
On the flip side, I haven’t asked my husband if he would’ve traded his guy’s afternoon for a baby shower - his answer might be different than mine. ![]()
