Found: Great Toddler / Baby Gift Ideas!!

Both of our kids are the perfect crafting age, so when I was looking for fun holiday crafts to do with them, I came across a great blog post with some great baby / toddler gift ideas. The gifts are fun kid stuff like Big Baby Crayons, Sidewalk Chalk, and Lace Cards! These are listed as Christmas gift ideas, but they are great anytime gifts; perfect gift ideas for do-it-yourself baby gifts to make with your kids - Ah, the quality time.

I really like the crayons craft, because around here, we inevitably end up with nothing but miniscule pieces of broken crayon in the kids’ artbox; pieces the kids won’t even touch. I’ve seen this one mentioned somewhere before as a perfect baby / toddler gift, because you can make big / thick crayon pieces that are easy for little hands to hold and hard for little hands to break.

My daughter has been raised on velcro and slip-on shoes, so she really needs to learn how to tie bows and shoe laces. The lace cards would be a really fun and creative family project. Imagine the fun shapes you could do - butterflies, jackets, shoes, cars, balls, anything. Plus, there are so many fun shoelaces that you can buy to really add some fun.

I think that making a couple of these items with your kids would be a great toddler birthday gift. You could enjoy some fun time with your babies, and they would have a fun gift, that they MADE, to give their friends. Cute.

Or better yet, grab a b*Fab baby or toddler gift and add some of the homemade crafts for added flair!

We all love the “most popular” baby name lists, and since it’s the end of the year, I thought it’d be fun to look at the current trends in baby names. However, the most “current” list is the top 100 names of 2006 - the data is still out on 2007. According to innocentenglish.com, if your baby’s name is on the 2006 list, the chances are good that it’ll be on the list in 2007 and 2008.

A couple of things struck me about the 2006 list - first, Emily is still at the top of the girls list. Emily has been at the top of the list for years now! The second thing I noticed is that the top 10 boys names are all pretty traditional names again. So, here’s the top ten boy and girl baby names of 2006:

  1. Jacob —— Emily
  2. Michael—— Emma
  3. Joshua —— Madison
  4. Ethan ——- Isabella
  5. Mathew —— Ava
  6. Daniel —— Abigail
  7. Christopher —– Olivia
  8. Andrew —– Hannah
  9. Anthony —— Sophia
  10. William —— Samantha

We make a lot of personalized blankets here at b*Fab, but we’ve seen more of the top 10 girl names listed above than we’ve seen of the top 10 boy names. We actually get quite a lot of unique boy AND girl names, and of course, we get some of the most unique name spellings under the moon!!!

Have fun naming your babies!!

Maybe the best thing about this project is the simple materials, pretty much construction paper, scissors, glue and a couple more items that are generally found around the home.

Pitti Bimbo is a big european fashion extravaganza and the Spring / Summer ‘08 Fashions are launching. The Pitti Bimbo website is a great place for you to get a sneak peak at upcoming trends in children’s fashions. It strikes me upon first glance at the pictures that a lot of the designs are actually practical, wearable, and look really comfortable.

As a designer myself, it’s fun for me to see what other designer’s are doing. I love a lot of the stuff I see on the Spring / Summer ‘08 runways for kids. It’ll be exciting to see what happens at the American fashion shows this year. I thought that some of you might enjoy checking out the runway pictures. I can see globalization more and more, I see European and American styles starting to blur and blend together a lot more these days.

Enjoy the pictures!

Today, is Live Earth day, and it seems to be the perfect day to start off day for our b*Green tips section. This blog section will give us a venue to share cool ideas and tips for living a greener life.

The first b*Green tip has to do with something I came across in the July / August 2007 issue of Natural Health magazine. You can both buy toothbrushes made of recycled plastic and have your old toothbrushes recycled. In fact, you can even subscribe to receive new toothbrushes regulary and send the old ones back in a postage-paid envelope (netflix gone green). The article in Natural Health lists the following websites you can visit for more information on purchasing recyclable toothbrushes:

Both toothbrushexpress.com and recycline.com have postage-paid programs so you can easily recycle (and most importantly, replace) your old toothbrushes.

I thought you might find it as interesting as I did, and hopefully, the idea of receiving a new toothbrush on a regular basis is appealing to you too. Especially if that new toothbrush is made of recycled plastics.

When it comes to giving your baby the good life, there’s the good, the great, the expensive, and then there’s the top-of-the-line.

This slideshow gives you a peek at some of the most luxurious baby items on the market - and their associated price tags. Kind of gives you a peek into the life of a super-rich baby. The real test is to see how each of these items compares to their lower-priced counterparts. I do believe that you get what you pay for, especially since we manufacture luxurious baby gifts ourselves. But at what point does the price tag become ridiculous and out-weigh any possible quality and style benefits?

Or maybe there is a certain point that a brand reaches where it’s worth any price?

We haven’t branched into maternity or nursing wear yet, but we had the pleasure of meeting Hanna, the owner of MamaToToWear, at Baby Celebration last weekend. MamaToToWear specializes in:

Our parents are all long-distance grandparents to our children. We aren’t fortunate enough to have the grand parents in-town, but our children are fortunate enough to have good, strong relationships with their grandparents. They talk on the phone often, and they send each other things. We’ve let our children talk on the phone to their loved ones since they were really little. They can both hold a decent, legible conversation on the phone, and they both enjoy keeping in touch with their grandparents via the telephone.

My daughter loves to paint, so we send a lot of watercolor paintings to the grandparents. I let her “write” her own letters and help with the envelopes. We actually have a batch to get together today. My dad moved to a new place, which the grandkids haven’t seen yet, so he sends them a lot of pictures of his house, the renovations he’s doing, and the dogs. They love the pictures of the dogs.

I found this site which contains tips on being a good long-distance grandparent, and thought that some of you might find some good ideas there. It’s not the best situation, but you can make the best of it.Personalized Baby Onesies and Toddler T-shirts by Baby Fabulous

And, of course, a long-distance grandparent could never go wrong with a personalized gift from Baby Fabulous.

I think this is a pretty amazing story; identical twins gave birth to their babies within hours of each other. The first was due to be delivered by cesarean section, but the second went into labor naturally. They shared the same doctor, who noted that he had wondered if doing a cesarean on the first would cause the other twin to go into labor. He believes strongly this says boatloads about the bond between twins.

It should say boatloads to all of us about the bond between humans, the energy we create, and how strong the connections we make can be. Twins just have a head start because they spend a lot of time together from birth.

You can read the entire amazing story of the twins who had their babies on the same day on MSN by clicking here.
