Our parents are all long-distance grandparents to our children. We aren’t fortunate enough to have the grand parents in-town, but our children are fortunate enough to have good, strong relationships with their grandparents. They talk on the phone often, and they send each other things. We’ve let our children talk on the phone to their loved ones since they were really little. They can both hold a decent, legible conversation on the phone, and they both enjoy keeping in touch with their grandparents via the telephone.

My daughter loves to paint, so we send a lot of watercolor paintings to the grandparents. I let her “write” her own letters and help with the envelopes. We actually have a batch to get together today. My dad moved to a new place, which the grandkids haven’t seen yet, so he sends them a lot of pictures of his house, the renovations he’s doing, and the dogs. They love the pictures of the dogs.

I found this site which contains tips on being a good long-distance grandparent, and thought that some of you might find some good ideas there. It’s not the best situation, but you can make the best of it.Personalized Baby Onesies and Toddler T-shirts by Baby Fabulous
