I found the changes my body went through during pregnancy to be a bit rough. Especially that awkard in-between phase, where it looks like you could be pregnant, or you could just be piling on the pounds. All of your regular comfy clothes don’t fit, and maternity clothing is too large. For this phase, I found that a rubber bound can be a wondrous thing - wrapped through the button hole of your jeans, it can extend the life of your regular jeans during your pregnancy. They have nice little spandex or jersey inserts you can get now too, which do the same thing as the rubber band, but are probably a lot more comfortable.

The best thing I did for my personal body image when I was pregnant was to invest in four classic items (which I literally wore to death during my pregnancies):

  • Hip jeans, they were stretch denim, cute, and just had a waistband, instead of a whole-belly panel
  • A hip maternity bathing suit - I got a bandana print tankini with black boy shorts
  • A cool demin skirt - again, mine had just an elastic waistband (no more itchy bellies)
  • A nice black wrap dress

By coincidence, all four of my pieces were by Japanese Weekend. I love their stuff, it’s comfortable and hip, and I got my wear and tear out of each piece I bought. The main point though, is that I can not express how crucial it is to have a few comfy and hip items that you can throw on to make yourself feel good at the summer bbq or all those weddings which conveniently pop up during your nine months of pregnancy. The key with the denim is that it’ll go with almost any top, the black dress - black is slimming and the wrap style is comfy and cute.
