Style Child is located in the heart of San Diego, on University, just off the 163. Style Child is a unique and gorgeous boutique that is filled with a great selection of baby clothing (including most Baby Fabulous organics designs), baby gear and toys. The customer service is outstanding, which is one reason the boutique is so popular.

What makes Style Child such a gem is that each item is selected not only for the style, but also for the safety. The owner is also a mom and she hand-selects the products that are carried in her store. I should say stores, she recently opened a sister maternity store, which also carries nursing clothing. The new store is practically next door to Style Child, so if you are pregnant, THIS is the place to check out for stylish items for both you and your baby.

Style Child is a San Diego Channel 10 News A list winner, and for a good reason – it has everything you need for baby or nursery (and now maternity and nursing clothing!) This boutique specializes in children’s furniture, and the selection is modern, functional, and stylish.
If you are in the San Diego area and are looking for a unique baby gift, or organic baby clothing, Style Child is worth the visit.

Naming your baby can be one of the most difficult tasks you’re faced with when you’re expecting. We thought we would share a fun baby name game that you can play on LilSugar.com to test your knowledge of popular baby names:

http://www.lilsugar.com/games/challenge/1053121

Choose the most popular of two names correctly, and the game keeps going.

After you’ve selected the BEST baby name in the world, make sure to put that “Name in Brights” – baby’s name is hand-appliquéd in fun prints on the best personalized baby blanket in the world.

The blankets make an exquisite and unique baby shower gift as well; personalized, soft & snuggly, stylish, modern, and machine-washable.

Designing your baby’s nursery should be an exciting and fun experience (right??). Children’s rooms are wide-open for creativity and color; where as you might feel the rest of the house should be a little more “subdued.” Have fun with it!

Keep the Stress at Bay

Here are a few tips to help you keep your stress levels low while making the choices for your nursery:

  • Don’t stress! The room will turn out great no matter what.
  • Select a color palette that is pleasing to infants and your entire family.
  • If you choose a popular color palette, you will increase the variety of choices you have in the stores.
  • Decide on a theme (ocean, jungle, etc) to help you make your color choices.
  • Find a print or pattern you love and use that to make the remaining design choices.

Popular Nursery Colors

The most popular color combinations for nurseries:

  • Girls – pink / chocolate; pink / green
  • Boys – blue / chocolate; green / chocolate

Cover the Basics

Keep in mind that you don’t have to do a lot to decorate a room. You really can keep it simple, especially since the amount of stuff you have will grow exponentially during baby’s first year. You will be adding new photographs and toys and keepsakes to the room as your child grows, so it’s fine if it seems under-stated at first.

Designing the nursery doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. If you don’t like it, you can always change it later. The reality is that it’s hard to go wrong, pick a color you are drawn to, settle on a theme and keep the process as low-key as possible.

I’m a big fan of color. Color sets moods and lifts spirits. This summer, I’ve been especially inspired by bright summer flowers. Maybe a few of these flower pictures can inspire your nursery design ideas, the colors you choose to surround your baby in / with, and your own personal style and accessory choices. Bright bold colors can brighten your day, provide the right amount of lift to an otherwise simple outfit, and stimulate your babies sense of sight. Flowers always provide fresh scents and big smiles. Flowers are a great source of Wao(TM) inspiration for your life. Enjoy and be inspired!

Summer floral colors and their meaning

Summer snap dragons

Summer snap dragons

The snapdragons are a blend of gorgeous deep burgondy, bright golds and pale yellows, and a soft creamy white. This is a complete naturally occuring color scheme that is happy, uplifting, playful, and innocent:

*gold / yellow – Golds and yellows are the colors of hope and happiness. Incredibly uplifting, they are warm colors. In feng shui, yellow is used to increase self-esteem, health, and general joy; yellows are widely recommended for children’s rooms.

Sunflowers and blue skies

Sunflowers and blue skies

*white / cream – whites represent innocence, purity, and cleanliness. White touches in a room provides tranquility and a nice contrast to brighter colors (such as fuchsia). In feng shui, white is the ulitimate color and is recommended for any room. It helps clarification and provides tranquility, and it’s especially good for meditation  – which can be as simple as the time spent rocking your newborn to sleep, humming lullabyes.

* blues - clear skies, refreshment, healing. The sunflowers in the picture to the right look gorgeous against the blue sky backdrop because it’s a common color combination, and it’s one that is often used in nursery designs.  In feng shui, light blues represent harmony and gentle growth. Light blue in a nursery will be relaxing and soothing, promoting good sleep patterns.

Bright Pink Summer Flowers

*burgundy / fuchsia / pink – Shades of pink convey sweetness and playfulness. In the US, Pink is widely accepted as THE color of little girls. It’s a feminine color. The deeper shades, such as the burgundy add strength. In feng shui, pink is the LOVE color and is recommended for little girls rooms.

The image to the left, the pinks w/ black background and touches of white, directly reflects a color scheme that I am currently using in design. In fact, my own daughter has her “Name in Brights” in the zebra minky w/ the pink plush.
